ABOUT US

Colchester Cares was founded and reactivated by Alex May in 2002 with the purpose of building self-sustaining homes for children who have lost their parents to AIDS, Malaria and T.B.

Currently the charity works with widows & orphans in the eldama-ravine Kenya. At the village they are trying to cope with the ever increasing problems of AIDS. The village seeks to involve widows and widowers in looking after children who have lost their parents.

Some families have taken in as many as 30 orphans, such is the problem. The result of AIDS leaves many children with no parents at all; the latest figures show 1.8 million children in Kenya alone without a mum or dad. AIDS has effectively wiped out a generation in the nation with the result that the burden of raising children is falling on the grandparents.

Vision Statement

To build homes for children so that they are able to invite friends back to their own home and give a sense of belonging to a family.

To employ widows and men to cook and care for the children and animals.

To buy cows to sell milk and chickens to produce eggs, in order to make the village self-sufficient.
